BULB ENERGY

Affordable and green energy

Bulb, the UK’s largest green energy supplier, is committed to supplying all of their members with 100% renewable electricity and carbon neutral gas. The organisation provides its members with 10% green gas and they offset the rest of their emissions by supporting carbon reduction projects around the world. A couple of weeks ago, a few members from the Bulb team stopped by our Bristol Bioresources and Renewable Energy Park for a full day of site tours, filming and photography.

Bulb's mission is to help its members reduce their bills and carbon impact. It was founded in 2015 to tackle some of the energy industry’s most prevalent problems, including inefficiency, poor service, expensive tariffs and non-green energy. It has since grown to a team of more than 500 people based in East London, providing their community of 1.5 million members with green and affordable energy. On average, Bulb can offer their customers prices which are 17% cheaper than any of the Big Six’s standard tariffs, meaning that their customers can rest well knowing that they are saving 200 pounds and shrinking their carbon footprint by 3.5 tonnes of CO2 a year – which is the equivalent to the hard work of around 1,770 trees.

Anaerobic digestion and green energy

We are responsible for generating some of Bulb’s green gas, helping the organisation to reach its ambitious target of supplying its community of 1.5 million members with 10% green gas, through the anaerobic digestion of human and food waste into biomethane at Avonmouth.

Every year, we treat over 700,000 tonnes of waste, including 75 million metres cubed of sewage waste and 35,000 tonnes of inedible food waste. This produces 17 million metres cubed of bio-methane a year, enough to fuel the Bio-Bee, our food waste collection vehicle powered entirely by the food it collects, and power 8,300 homes with electricity.

A day full of filming
